Gratis privacy policy

Gratis is a Shopify app, made by AndrewTechful, that gives shoppers a free gift when their cart qualifies for a merchant's offer. This policy says what information Gratis handles and what it does with it.

What Gratis can reach

When a merchant installs Gratis, Shopify lets it reach the store's products, discounts, checkout rules and themes. Gratis uses them to create the merchant's offers, check their gifts, add its checkout rule and see whether its app embed is on. It asks for no access to customers or orders.

What Gratis keeps

A merchant's offers live in their own store, as Shopify discounts and their settings. Gratis's database keeps only the store's Shopify session (the store's address, the access Shopify granted and its access token) and, if the store's paid plan lapses, which offers Gratis paused and the plan status Shopify reported.

Shoppers

Gratis stores nothing about shoppers. In the storefront, the Gratis app embed runs in the shopper's browser: it reads the cart and, for an offer limited to tagged customers, whether the signed-in customer has those tags, then adds or removes the gift. At checkout, Shopify runs Gratis's Functions on its own servers to make the gift free. None of this is sent to Gratis's servers.

Payments

Gratis's paid plans are charged through Shopify's billing. Gratis never sees card or bank details.

Hosting

Gratis's server runs on Cloudflare Workers, with its database on Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare keeps logs of requests to Gratis's server for a limited time, for troubleshooting.

Deleting data

When a merchant uninstalls Gratis, Shopify deletes the offers' discounts, and Gratis deletes everything it stored about the store. Gratis also answers Shopify's privacy requests: it has no customer data to report or delete, and it deletes a store's data when Shopify asks it to.

Sharing

Gratis doesn't sell or share anyone's information, and uses no advertising or analytics trackers.
